Autumn 2017 Conference: Christianity & Inner Life with Mark Vernon

/Autumn 2017 Conference: Christianity & Inner Life with Mark Vernon

Central to CRC’s work is creating opportunities to gather together to share insights and experience as well as to be stimulated and challenged intellectually through listening to leading thinkers in areas that relate to a questioning faith, rooted in Jesus. Each year, we aim to host two or three Saturday conferences plus a number of Wednesday Seminar and Library Evenings, all at St Mark’s Church. In this section, you will find details of forthcoming events and be able to make bookings either on-line or by downloading a form.

Mark Vernon is a psychotherapist, writer and teacher.  The theme that brings these different interests together is, in a way, the ancient philosophers’ great question: who are we and how do we flourish?

Christianity has rich traditions for engaging the inner life, through this living wisdom has arguably been largely lost since the Reformation, which erased contemplative practices almost overnight.  Jung argued that this is the reason psychotherapy evolved, to fill a needed gap.

This day will explore, with talks and discussion, how the older insights might be revitalised by the new.  We will consider the sayings of Jesus as practical wisdom, think about the psychology developed by the desert fathers and mothers, and ask how these elements might be integrated now.
